Annual dash for ice cream at the beach!

Every year for the past few years at the end of the summer, we take a day trip to the Tillamook Cheese Factory for ice cream! This year we decided we should partake in some outdoor activities before getting our treat. So we went to Cape Lookout State Park, just south of Tillamook, and hiked the South Trail down to the beach and back. The trail is 1.8 miles one way and is mostly gradual switchbacks through beautiful old-growth trees. The weather was absolutely perfect and the kids enjoyed seeing the huge trees, big mushrooms, a snake or two, bugs and listening to the waves crash on the beach that we could barely see until we got to the bottom. Then, WOW, what a beach it is!

This is Cape Lookout, a 2.4 mile one-way trek to the point. This hike would have been a bit too long, but apparently the views are stunning.

A driftwood structure someone built.

This apparently is a popular spot to surf. We saw several people with boards but not too many actually surfing.

The view from about midway up the trail.

Checking out what's on the trail.

"Ack, my wife and daughter!" [Such a funny guy :)]

Now time for ice cream! Of course, I don't have a picture of us at the factory, but we all enjoyed our scoops. Yum!

  1. What gorgeous photos! The Tillamook Cheese Factory is always one of our favorites and a must stop on our trips to Pacific City. There is a Forestry Center about 20 mileseast of Tillamook that is also really fun to visit the next time you head that direction...
