The first was the Pearl District's Block Party which was hosted by the children's radio host pair who call themselves Greasy Kid Stuff. They play fun kid's music that even parents enjoy. We got there fairly soon after it started so there wasn't a whole lot of partying going on but since music was playing, Jack and Kaitlin had to dance.

There was also a petting zoo (in the city!) and chalk to draw with.
On to event number two: the Red Bull Flugtag USA! Extremely different atmosphere at this crazy event! Due to the fact that 80,000 people were crowded into the waterfront area, we weren't actually able to see any of the contraptions fly live but only on one of the big screens (they didn't fly, as Jack pointed out to us, they fell). I was able to get a couple pictures of these ambitious human-powered flying machines and even the eventual winner (the "big-wheel" team).
On the water in a boat would have been the best place to see the flying (or falling) machines.
Trying to get a better view.
The kids liked these unique Mini-Coopers.
The crazy people on their way to the murky river.
So our day went from dancing with the milk-drinkers in the Pearl to ogling the Red Bull-drinkers on the waterfront. Fun times for all and it was worth leaving the chores behind.

Ahhhh, I love summers in Portland. There's always so much going on and it's all FUN.
ReplyDeleteJack is one heck of a dancer. Where does he get those moves?? And that Kaitlin is so darn cute. "Daddy, look at my moves" had me laughing...
We always rode our bikes down the Springwater Corridor to see the Flugtag event from across the river or from the Hawthorne Bridge. Ahhh, good times... :)
